The 20th Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Proverbs (ICP26) / 7th ICP-Online will take place in Tavira (Portugal), from 01 to 08 November 2026 at the Hotel Vila Galé-Tavira. The main organizer is the AIP-IAP and the co-organizer is the Tavira Municipality (CMT).
The objective of the Colloquium is to bring together international experts, students, graduate students, teachers and enthusiasts of proverbs. Participants from different fields of study and practice on proverbs are welcome. The Colloquium will become a forum for sharing research expertise on paremiology discussing with teachers and other appliers of proverbs and proverbial expressions.

In addition to these experts there will be acknowledged scholars from other countries, namely from Angola, Brazil, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, Spain, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, United States of America, Uzbekistan, etc.
We invite papers (presentations or posters of various approaches to proverbs), among others, on topics indicated at the GENERAL PRESENTATION section. Presenting participants should fill the “PARTICIPATE” form by 13 July 2026. We also invite researchers, teachers, members of AIP-IAP and enthusiasts on paremiology to participate in the Colloquium and share the atmosphere, even though they don’t intend to submit any paper or poster.
Papers and theme discussions will be 30 minutes long, including the discussion time (10 minutes). The language of the Colloquium will be Portuguese and English. English as a lingua franca is recommended at least in the slides of the PowerPoint presentations.
Participants aiming to give a presentation are invited to send their abstracts, contact information, field of research, and the details of their stay in Tavira during the Colloquium. Questions concerning the aims and themes of the Colloquium should be addressed to the Organizing Committee.
Presenters will be informed about the acceptance of their paper by 20 July 2026. For more details, all participants (with or without presentation) are invited to visit the pages “PARTICIPATE” and “DATES / PAYMENT”.

Note: we ask participants to bring published or unpublished material (audio/video records, posters, proverb collections, articles, etc.) for an exhibition to be arranged during the Colloquium.
